Introduction

Zplit ("we", "our", or "the app") is a bill splitting application that helps you divide expenses among friends. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.

Privacy at a Glance

We do not collect personal data. All your bill data stays on your device. Receipt images are processed temporarily and immediately deleted after scanning.

Information We Process

Zplit processes the following types of information:

How We Process Receipt Images

When you scan a receipt, the following process occurs:

Your receipt image is captured using your device's camera
The image is sent to our secure server for text extraction (OCR)
We use AI technology to identify items and prices on the receipt
The extracted text is returned to your device
The image is immediately deleted - we do not store receipt images

Receipt processing is performed using Google's Gemini AI and Cloudflare Workers AI. These services process images temporarily and do not retain them after processing.

Data Storage

All your bill data, including items, prices, and person assignments, is stored locally on your device using your browser's local storage. This means:

Your data never leaves your device (except temporarily for OCR processing)
We cannot access your saved bills or personal information
Clearing your browser data will delete your saved bills
Your data is not synced across devices

Third-Party Services

Zplit uses the following third-party services:

Google AI (Gemini)

Used for advanced receipt text extraction. Images are processed temporarily according to Google's Privacy Policy.

Cloudflare

Our backend infrastructure runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare may collect basic analytics data as described in their Privacy Policy.

Permissions

The app may request the following permissions:

Camera: To capture receipt photos for OCR scanning. Camera access is only used when you actively choose to scan a receipt.
Internet: To send receipt images to our OCR service and receive extracted text.

Children's Privacy

Zplit is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your data:

All data transmission is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
Receipt images are processed in memory and immediately deleted
No personal data is stored on our servers
Our infrastructure is hosted on Cloudflare's secure network

Your Rights

Since we don't collect personal data, there is no personal data to access, modify, or delete. You can clear all locally stored data by:

Clearing your browser's local storage
Uninstalling the app (for mobile)
Using the "Clear Data" option in the app settings (if available)

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
